Punjab police book Honey Singh for obscenity (11:43 AM May 18th)
Controversial singer Honey Singh was booked on Thursday by the Punjab police under Section 294 (obscene acts and songs to the annoyance of others in public place) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). This comes post the Punjab government drew flack from the Haryana and Punjab High Courts for inaction against the rapper after a PIL was filed by Parvinder Singh Kittna, general secretary of an NGO Human Empowerment League of Punjab.

While the PIL had sought directions to set up an effective mechanism to curb the menace of lewd songs, it claimed that all levels of decency were being violated by certain singers. The petitioner had particularly mentioned Honey's song 'Main Hoon Balatkari' (I am a rapist), stating that it had hurt the sentiments of all civilized citizens of the country.

On the other hand, the charges under Section 294 of the IPC that have been leveled against the rapper can incur imprisonment for a term which may extend to three months, or with a fine, or with both.


Ajay Devgn supports release of his 10 yr old film Naam (10:29 AM May 18th)
Dinesh Patel who had produced Ajay Devgn's career-making debut Phool Aur Kaante is currently in an unhappy financial situation. To tide him over the monetary crisis, Devgn, known to be charitable towards the film fraternity, has agreed to let Patel's 10-year old film with Devgan in the lead be released.

Old long-forgotten films being fished out of the cans for release... these are every star's biggest nightmare. Ajay Devgn who is currently going through the most fruitful phase of his career now has to confront the embarrassment of a 10-year old film entitled Naam (no relation to the Mahesh Bhatt film starring Sanjay Dutt) being released next week.

The film directed by Anees Bazmee features Devgn with Sameera Reddy and Bhumika Chawla.

Complicating the issue further is the fact that the film is produced by Dinesh Patel who was the producer of Devgn's debut film Phool Aur Kaante. Apparently, the producer is going through financially difficult times. Ajay is therefore not inclined to discourage the release.

Neither is Anees. Says the director, "As a director I feel uncomfortable about a 10-year old film being released now. But the producer has put in the money and needs to get back his investment. I am told he's going through financial hardships. We have to respect the producers' financial interests."

Anees agrees the film may look dated. "Ajay and I are not what we used to be ten years ago. But when we did the film it was a very well-written thriller. I've done another film Deewangee with him. That too moved away from my forte, namely comedy. So we are both on a firm ground here."

Incidentally, Priyanka Chopra too went out of her way to accommodate a financially challenged producer. She not only agreed to let K C Bokadia release her decade-old hibernating project Deewana Main Deewana, she also gave him bonus dates to shoot a new song.

Old projects are never good news for a star's career. But actors like Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn and Govinda have repeatedly bailed ailing languishing projects out of the cans, knowing fully well the project would bomb.


Shah Rukhs Shower Dance in Chennai (10:05 AM May 18th)
Contrary to reports in a section of the press claiming that Shah Rukh Khan danced for Kamal Haasan at a party thrown in Chennai in honour of the former on Sunday night, Shah Rukh danced for the entire congregation of who's who from the Tamil film industry at the party hosted in his honour at the Hyatt in Chennai.

And he danced drenched from head to toe. Says Kamal Haasan, "He danced wonderfully on stage and it looked like he had come out of the bath and forgotten to dry."

The truth about SRK's wet and wild look that Sunday evening was a little less romantic and far scarier. The air conditioning at the posh luxury hotel had conked off leaving SRK swathed in sweat.

Says Kamal, "It was every celebrity-bash's worst nightmare come true. The air conditioning at the hotel broke down. We were all left seething and simmering in the heat, helpless, angry and bitter. Shah Rukh was fully and formally dressed in a suit for the occasion. His condition in the heat was indescribable. But look at this entertainer! He pulled off his coat, jumped on to the stage and danced, although he dripped sweat like he had just had a bath."

Shah Rukh, we are told, was pretty much completely drained out and on the verge of dehydration after his sweat-soaked performance. "But he didn't care. At that moment he forgot all his discomfort. It was just Shah Rukh Saab (that's what Kamal Haasan calls his junior colleague) and the stage. He is a natural-born entertainer," says Kamal Haasan.

Kamal Haasan and Shah Rukh share a mutual admiration society from the time they worked together in Hey Ram 2000. Shah Rukh had refused to charge any money for the film claiming that the honour of working with the great Kamal Haasan was reward enough. Says Kamal Haasan appreciatively, "Shah Rukh is a true Pathan. A man of his words. I owe him a big favour."

Boman Irani injured in Fiji (12:54 PM May 17th)
Boman Irani who recently landed in the scenic locale of Fiji for his under production film injured himself while shooting. Apparently, the actor who was shooting for director Akashdeep's upcoming film, ended up with an injured knee and a torn ligament.

It is learnt that Boman hurt his knee while doing a few moves for a racy dance number in the film. The injury was so bad that the actor had to be carried back to the hotel where he is currently staying.

Though more details are unavailable, the film titled Santa Banta is produced and directed by Akashdeep. Currently being shot in Fiji, the film also features Neha Dhupia, model-turned-actress Lisa Hayden, Ram Kapoor and comedian Johnny Lever.


Nargis signed opposite Varun for Main Tera Hero (12:01 PM May 17th)
Nargis Fakhri who made her debut opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Imtiaz Ali's film Rockstar had not signed any film for months, until now. The actress recently shot for John Abraham starrer Madras Cafe and has recently also been signed for Akshay Kumar starrer Shaukeen remake. And now, the news is that the gorgeous model-turned-actress has been roped in for David Dhawan's film Main Tera Hero. The film stars Varun Dhawan in lead role.

Confirming the news, sources close to the film say, "Yes, Nargis has been signed on for the film. In fact she has a very important role in the film. However, more details of her role are currently unavailable."

Earlier, Ileana D'Cruz was signed as one of the actresses for the film, while the makers were on the lookout for another actress. Main Tera Hero which has been locked for release in April 2014 is scheduled to go on floor this June.

No stars to send off Sanjay Dutt (10:37 AM May 17th)
The turn-out at Sanjay Dutt's Pali Hill residence on Thursday morning as he took off for his jail term was pretty abysmal. Among his close friends, there were only Mahesh Bhatt, Bunty Walia, Sohail Makhlai, Raj Kundra and Vashu Bhagnani.

And yes, the glamour quotient was provided by Sophie Choudry, Dutt's only female co-star who showed up for the send-off.

At the time of leaving for court Dutt's mood, according to friends, was of brave acceptance.

"There were no tears and hysterics, as reported by some imaginative sections of the press. Baba left for court in a calm and controlled state of mind. He wasn't speaking much. But then neither were we. This was a very peculiar place to be in. How does one see a dear friend off to jail?," says a friend of Dutt.

Apparently, the entire atmosphere of somberness was hijacked by the charges of spot-fixing against Raj Kundra's IPL players.

"Sadly," says one of Dutt's friends. "Everyone got more interested in Raj Kundra than Sanjay Dutt after the spot-fixing news came in."

Sanjay Gupta John join forces for epic revenge saga (10:14 AM May 17th)
After the stupendous success of Shootout At Wadala, director Sanjay Gupta joins forces with action Abraham yet again for an epic revenge saga which looks to redefine the action space in Bollywood.

Based on the lines of Hollywood blockbusters like Kill Bill and Django Unchained, the untitled one-man-army film will be amongst Bollywood's most ambitious yet and who better than director Sanjay Gupta to helm the project.

If sources are to be believed, the makers promise to give it a similar status that Sunny Deol's Ghayal had back in the day. The film will also see John pushing the envelope in the action space, with high adrenaline stunts without body doubles in signature Sanjay Gupta style.

Reveals a source, "Sanjay Gupta joins hands with John Abraham for an epic revenge saga which is on the lines of a Bollywood Rambo... When dabbling with the script, the director could think of no one better than John to essay the role of the protagonist since he has the physique to carry off the character and is synonymous with "action"... The film will be made on par international standards with a contemporary linear treatment."

Abhishek Ash Ajay visited Sanjay Dutt last evening (05:10 PM May 16th)
It was a somber Wednesday evening at Sanjay Dutt's Pali Hill residence when the actor's incarceration was just hours away. Sanjay Dutt decided to spend the evening with his wife Maanyata and his twins. And contrary to reports on Thursday morning, there were no dramatic outbursts from Dutt. According to his friends, Dutt was remarkably calm and controlled on the evening before his impending incarceration.

"In fact Baba was providing comfort to Maanyata bhabhi who was acutely tense and inconsolable," says a friend.

Close friends dropped in to wish Dutt goodbye promising to be there for his family. Among the actors who stayed with Dutt for a major part of the evening was Ajay Devgn. Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who had just returned to Mumbai were seen at the Dutts' residence for some time.

Says a source, "There was not much conversation. No one seemed in the mood to talk. And Baba's appointment with the prison the next morning was not mentioned at all. It was almost as if the impending catastrophe would somehow go away. Baba had dreaded going back in for 20 years now. He lived with that dread every single day. And now it was finally happening."

Says a close friend of the troubled star, "Baba's main concern is Maanyata and the twins. Each time a close friend would drop in his brows would crease and his eyes would well up. He would look heavenwards helplessly."

Apparently, both Ajay and Abhishek have promised to look after Dutt's family in his absence. And Abhishek, we hear, has agreed to make a guest appearance in Sanjay Dutt Productions' Hasmukh Pighal Gaya.

Other close friends like Apoorva Lakhia and Bunty Walia decided to stay away from Dutt on his last day of freedom, so he could have some private time with his family.

And for those who are wondering where Dutt's devoted pal Suniel Shetty, known to stand by his friends through thick and thin, had disappeared, the sad truth is Dutt and Shetty had fall-out some time ago over a guest appearance that Shetty wanted Dutt to make in a film produced by Shetty. Sad, because at this time in his life Sanjay Dutt needs all the friends he can get.
