Shiney Ahuja's maid denies being raped (10:10 AM September 8th)
Remember the Shiney Ahuja case that put the spotlight on the dark side of Bollywood? June last year, Shiney's maid lodged a Police complaint alleging that she was raped by the actor at his residence. Following the complaint, the actor was arrested on June 14 and was later released on bail.
Taking a new twist now, the 20-year-old girl appeared before the court stating that she was never raped by Shiney and that she had filed the complaint against the actor at the behest of the woman who had secured her the job of a maid in Ahuja's residence.
With this new development, the court declared her hostile and she may be punished by law for perjury. However a decision on the case hasn't yet been reached with the next hearing being scheduled on September 15.

Anupam Kher talks about his 'Power Within' workshops (07:53 AM September 8th)

Among the many non-cinema activities that now occupy Anupam Kher's time and space the one he is most excited about is the Power Within project . It's a nationwide chain of workshops that Anupam will start next year. These would be a haven for healing nurturing and nursing the human spirit back to health.
Explains Anupam, "My idea of these spiritual clinics came about when I lectured on the subject of self actualization some time ago. So many of us, especially from the small towns suffer from low self-esteem. When I came to Mumbai to become an actor, I was made to feel small about everything, from my broken English to my lack of table manners. That's when I realized, 'F..k it, I don't need people's approval. I need to like myself to be comfortable with my own personality. That's what the Power Within workshops will strive to achieve."
For starters Anupam will enrol some of his colleagues from the film industry who admit to being low on self-worth. The chain of workshops will go global after opening in India next year.
Anupam feels his play Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai has taught him to value his failures as well as his successes.
An exhibition held on Tuesday highlighted one endeavour by a painter to understand the importance of Anupam's failures.
Says Anupam, "Geeta Das did not paint me as a hero. She portrayed my failures in the exhibition. That's what I liked."
The chief guest at the exhibition was none other Amitabh Bachchan.
"I didn't have to ask him more than once. He immediately responded and agreed. What really sets the failures apart from their successes is the way you cope with time and people. Deriving pleasure in making people wait for your response is not a sign of importance. It just shows how small you are in your self-important space."

Tabu and Vidya Balan to feature in Santosh Sivan's Urmi (05:53 AM September 8th)
We all are witness to Vidya Balan's acting prowess and her dancing excellence. No wonder then that director Santosh Sivan didn't blink an eye before approaching Balan for a dance number based on the traditional Mohiniattam dance form, in his yet to release film titled Urmi. The song has been choreographed by the well known south dance director Ulhas.
Not only is Vidya performing a dance number but she has an extended part in the film as well. This Malayalam film is a period drama set in the 15th Century and deals with the killer of Vasco Da Gama. The leading actors of the film are Genelia D'Souza and Prabhudeva.
Vidya has completed the shoot for it but another famous actress, who is also known for her Indian looks and exceptional acting skills, would be doing a number in the film as well. It is none other than Tabu who will be seen in a dance sequence with Prabhudeva and actor Prithviraj which will be choreographed by Ahmed Khan. If you can't wait to see Genelia, Tabu and Vidya together on screen, just wait until the end of the year when the movie is slated for release.
Waiting for Rahman: Jhootha Hi Sahi director stranded in Chennai? (03:02 AM September 8th)
Abbas Tyrewala was in Chennai on Sunday and Monday trying to get the last bit of his much-delayed music in Jhootha Hi Sahi in place. The film is just weeks away from release date (Oct 15). And the master-CD is still not in the harassed director's hands.
The formal music release by Saregama has been postponed until the music is ready.
But before that, a formal announcement of the music was to be made on music reality-show which was recorded on Tuesday.
The 'master' was to be ready latest by Monday evening, so that the director Abbas Tyrewala and composer A R Rahman could rush back from Chennai in time to record the show on Tuesday. At the time of writing the music was still not completed.
Trying to sound brave and not pressing the panic button, Tyrewala on Sunday said from Chennai, "I've been shuttling between Chennai and Mumbai. Staying awake since Rahman works at nights, I've forgotten what jetlag is. I know it's cutting it close. We are almost done....finally! We just need to add a string section in the soundtrack. I am hopeful tomorrow it will be done and we'll make it for the show."
Abbas jumps to the much-beleaguered Rahman's defence. "When you want the pinnacle of excellence, in the quality of songs in your film that only Rahman can achieve, then you've to be prepared to be patient. Yes, I have had to wait. But it's been worth it. Rahman has composed 7 songs and 2 re-mixes. That's a total of 9 tracks."
As for the delay, Abbas defends, "What can Rahman do if suddenly three films are all up for release at the same time, my Jhootha Hi Sahi, Danny Boyle's 127 Hours and Shankar's Robot are all being readied for release at the same time. Have a heart. Bachche ki jaan logey, kya?"

The Bheja Fry director Sagar Ballary is ready with three films, to be released one after the other in the next one year.
Bheja Fry 2 is the one that is being most talked-about. Cutting down the controversy over the casting Ballary, currently shooting with director Madhur Bhandarkar for Hum Tum Aur Shabana says Rajat Kapoor was never meant to star in the sequel to Bheja Fry. "As in any ongoing series, only the character of the hero namely Bharat Bhushan played by Vinay Pathak would remain constant. All the rest of the characters, including Rajat Kapoor changes every time," explains Sagar.
Sagar says the rumour about Rajat Kapoor opting out was spread by an actor who was sacked from Bheja Fry 2.
"That actor thought that by spreading rumours about Rajat, she was covering her own tracks. I'm very happy to say Bheja Fry 2, as too my other two new films Nimbu Paani (for children) and Hum Tum Aur Shabana which I am shooting now are absolutely original. As for Bheja Fry it was inspired by a French film (Francis Veber's Dinner Game), no doubt. I am happy to see a new Hollywood film Dinner For Schmuks based on the same matter. If I may say so myself my Bheja Fry was far less slapstick than the Hollywood film."
Sagar's new film Hum Tum Aur Shabana is partly set in the fashion world, and that's where Madhur Bhandarkar came in on Thursday.

Not only is Vidya performing a dance number but she has an extended part in the film as well. This Malayalam film is a period drama set in the 15th Century and deals with the killer of Vasco Da Gama. The leading actors of the film are Genelia D'Souza and Prabhudeva.
Vidya has completed the shoot for it but another famous actress, who is also known for her Indian looks and exceptional acting skills, would be doing a number in the film as well. It is none other than Tabu who will be seen in a dance sequence with Prabhudeva and actor Prithviraj which will be choreographed by Ahmed Khan. Abbas Tyrewala was in Chennai on Sunday and Monday trying to get the last bit of his much-delayed music in Jhootha Hi Sahi in place. The film is just weeks away from release date (Oct 15). And the master-CD is still not in the harassed director's hands.
The formal music release by Saregama has been postponed until the music is ready.
But before that, a formal announcement of the music was to be made on music reality-show which was recorded on Tuesday.
The 'master' was to be ready latest by Monday evening, so that the director Abbas Tyrewala and composer A R Rahman could rush back from Chennai in time to record the show on Tuesday. At the time of writing the music was still not completed.
Trying to sound brave and not pressing the panic button, Tyrewala on Sunday said from Chennai, "I've been shuttling between Chennai and Mumbai. Staying awake since Rahman works at nights, I've forgotten what jetlag is. I know it's cutting it close. We are almost done....finally! We just need to add a string section in the soundtrack. I am hopeful tomorrow it will be done and we'll make it for the show."
Abbas jumps to the much-beleaguered Rahman's defence. "When you want the pinnacle of excellence, in the quality of songs in your film that only Rahman can achieve, then you've to be prepared to be patient. Yes, I have had to wait. But it's been worth it. Rahman has composed 7 songs and 2 re-mixes. That's a total of 9 tracks."
As for the delay, Abbas defends, "What can Rahman do if suddenly three films are all up for release at the same time, my Jhootha Hi Sahi, Danny Boyle's 127 Hours and Shankar's Robot are all being readied for release at the same time. The Bheja Fry director Sagar Ballary is ready with three films, to be released one after the other in the next one year.
Bheja Fry 2 is the one that is being most talked-about. Cutting down the controversy over the casting Ballary, currently shooting with director Madhur Bhandarkar for Hum Tum Aur Shabana says Rajat Kapoor was never meant to star in the sequel to Bheja Fry. "As in any ongoing series, only the character of the hero namely Bharat Bhushan played by Vinay Pathak would remain constant. All the rest of the characters, including Rajat Kapoor changes every time," explains Sagar.
Sagar says the rumour about Rajat Kapoor opting out was spread by an actor who was sacked from Bheja Fry 2.
"That actor thought that by spreading rumours about Rajat, she was covering her own tracks. I'm very happy to say Bheja Fry 2, as too my other two new films Nimbu Paani (for children) and Hum Tum Aur Shabana which I am shooting now are absolutely original. As for Bheja Fry it was inspired by a French film (Francis Veber's Dinner Game), no doubt. I am happy to see a new Hollywood film Dinner For Schmuks based on the same matter. If I may say so myself my Bheja Fry was far less slapstick than the Hollywood film."
