Kangna walks out of Deepa Mehta's Midnight's Children (09:33 AM September 3rd)
Just sometime back, in fact just in August, it was announced that Kangna Ranaut would be starring in Deepa Mehta's adaptation of the novel Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie. However, time changes a lot and so has the star cast of this film. The latest is that Kangna has dropped out of the said project. Kangna's spokesperson said, "Yes Kangna has actually opted out of the film Midnight's Children which is being made by Deepa Mehta. The reason for this change is Kangna is really busy and her dates are clashing with that of Deepa's film." With Kangna out of the film, Deepa will probably have to go star hunting once again in Bollywood.

Fox Star Studios is all set with its 2010 Trade Show to bring the industry and it's stakeholders up to date with their slate of releases. An interactive session between Distributors, Sub-distributors and key exhibitors from various parts of the country, this summit is a big learning curve for the Industry majors. Happening for the first time in India, Industry majors are travelling from all over the country to be part of this trade show and talking to the top brass of Fox Star Studios. Ajay Devgn fined Rs. 200 for smoking in public place in Goa (04:23 AM September 3rd)
Earlier in the month of May this year, Ajay Devgn earned the wrath of director of health services, Dr Rajnanda Desai, for smoking in a public place in Goa. The actor was shooting then for his forthcoming film Golmaal 3 and was caught puffing away near the Inox cinema hall in Panaji. While the complaint against the actor was filed then by National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication (NOTE), it's only now that he has been asked to pay a penalty of Rs.200. Ajay, through his representative, did pay the fine of Rs.200 earlier this week on Wednesday. The fine was levied for smoking in a public place which is in direct violation of section 4 of the Cigarette and Other Tobacco Products Act, 2003 (COTPA).

For those who have been wondering where Ram Gopal Varma's prized discovery Mohit Ahlawat vanished, the young 'gym-toned' actor made his debut in Ram Gopal Varma's James in 2005. He had the guts to tell his mentor in his face that his script for the remake of Sholay would never work. Mohit paid heavily for his outspokenness. He was banished not only from Ram Gopal Varma's production house but also from Bollywood. Last heard he had walked out of Ghajini because he found his role (of the cop) too inconsequential. Thereafter, Mohit seemed to disappear from the face of earth. His phone number has changed and apparently he has gone back to his family business in Panipat and Delhi. But now one sees him part of the ensemble cast in debutant director Akshay Shere's Emotional Aatyachar. Mohit and Shere go a back a long way, to their days together in Ram Gopal Varma's production house. Even Shere seems unaware of Mohit's whereabouts. But he does let out that Mohit was in hospital lately. "I think it is for some intestine or stomach problem. Too much work-out has taken its toll on him," informs the director. Ironically, the bout of ill health has deprived Mohit of the little bit of attention that his new film would have got him. Even more ironically, director Mohit Shere says Mohit plays, "A businessman who meets some bizarre people." Sounds like Mohit's own story.


The Film Emotional Atyachar gets clearance from HC to retain title (03:55 AM September 3rd)
Producers of The Film Emotional Atyachar were in a soup recently due to the resemblance between their movie title and the show on UTV Bindass which goes by the same name. UTV Bindass and Genx Entertainment had filed a case against the film's producers Purple Haze Motion Pictures, seeking Rs. 20 crore as compensation and a stay order on the release, as they claimed that UTV had the copyright over the name 'Emotional Atyachar'. According to the UTV, they have registered the title in 2008 with the association of TV producers. However, the film which stars Vinay Pathak, Ranvir Shorey and Kalki Koechlin, bears no resemblance to the show what so ever while Purple Haze Motion Pictures claimed that they have registered the title with the Indian Motion Pictures Producers' Association. In view of both sides of the story, the Bombay High Court ruled out the judgment in the favour of the film and has given a go ahead for its release and has asked the producers to display a disclaimer stating that the film is not associated with the reality show 'Emotional Atyachar'.

While showbiz is expressing exaggerated shock over Sajid Khan's decision to work with producer Vashu Bhagnani after Sajid Nadiadwala produced two hit films for the director, Khan and Nadiadwala are cool about the arrangement. In fact the two Sajids have now come to an understanding. Sajid Khan is free to direct films for other producers. But Khan will direct Akshay Kumar only for Nadiadwala. Says Nadiadwala, "I think it's only fair that I give my directors the freedom to work with other producers. If I showed trust in Sajid Khan by giving him a break in Heyy Babyy and then Housefull, Akshay Kumar also showed trust in Sajid Khan. So we've decided not to break the team. Whenever Sajid Khan will direct Akshay I'll produce." The trio already have a project ready to go on the floors in the middle of 2011. Nadiadwala confirms, "Sajid Khan is working on a script for Akshay. And we hope to start in mid-2011 after Sajid finishes his film for Vashu Bhagnani." Both Vashu Bhagnani and Sajid Khan took Nadiadwala's consent before working together. Says Nadiadwala, "They both took my blessings. And I was most happy to give it to them as long as their project didn't star Akshay."


Siddharth Malhotra's next is father-daughter story featuring Rishi Kapoor (03:12 AM September 3rd)
Since Siddharth Malhotra's mentor and role-model Kajol is on maternity leave, the director is looking at casting his best friend Shahid Kapoor in his next film. He has been my best friend for years. He watched it along with Sooraj Barjatya and Raju Hirani. Shahid absolutely loved my film." That's the kind of love and loyalty Siddharth believes in. A self-declared Kajol bhakt he is ready to go to any lengths to be loyal to his muse and guardian angel Kajol. After keeping a life-long mannat for Kajol agreeing to do his first film, Siddharth has now gone a step further. He has postponed his next film with Kajol in the lead because of the actress' impending motherhood. Kajol intends to take at least one full year off before returning to acting. Rather than cast someone else in the role that was written especially for Kajol, Siddharth has now decided to make another film next. The director's next would be a father-daughter family-comedy featuring Rishi Kapoor as the father. The daughter is yet to be cast. But the buzz is that Siddharth wants to create cinematic history by casting Rishi's niece Kareena as his daughter. Confirming these developments Siddharth Malhotra says, "I did want to make my film with Kajol next. But she won't be doing any film for a year and a half. So I'm making a family comedy. I've completed this other script. Rishi Kapoor plays father to a much younger girl. I'll make this family comedy before my film with Kadz." Siddharth has had a family screening of We Are Family. Karan Johar is apparently so proud of his protégé that he has agreed to let Siddharth make whichever film he wants to next. Shahid and Siddharth have been best friends since the time Shahid starred in Sooraj Barjatya's Vivah. Recalls Siddharth, "I was the associate director of Vivah. Shahid and I have been close since then. Now we're even closer. I really value his judgement." About casting Shahid in his Rishi Kapoor film, Siddharth Malhotra says, "I don't want to commit myself to casting Shahid until Karan Johar reads my script. But I know one thing. I'll present Shahid like no one else."
